An Accidental Artist!

As a Nicaraguan artist navigating the vibrant streets of the DC metro area, my work reflects my deep-rooted connection to nature and its intrinsic ties to our human experience. Growing up in Nicaragua, I was exposed to lush landscapes and a rich cultural heritage that shaped my artistic vision of hope and growth. My work should sound like a salsa song. It is mixed media. The bright, bold colors should make you want to go out and dance.

In a world where our connection to nature is increasingly fragile yet essential, I believe art has the power to inspire hope, change, and renew our sense of wonder for the world around us and ourselves as individuals. It did for me. In 2008, I was diagnosed with cancer, and I used art as therapy. Art kept my body and mind occupied with creating, and in a way, it saved me. It is no mystery that part of the cure is spirit. So, in 2008, I became an artist.

Now, I aim to continue exploring the profound connections between humanity and the natural world, to keep making people dance with my paintings, to create compositions that invite the viewers to jump in and contemplate their own relationship with nature amidst the bustling rhythms of modern life, or to head outside and find a hiking trail to get lost in for a day.

It is a core belief of mine that no matter where we are geographically, we are all connected and part of the same world. Ultimately, my journey as an artist is about appreciating our world, both inner and natural. It is about the importance of hope and being thankful we are alive, walking, and dancing.
